Titanium Flooring in Sri Lanka

Titanium flooring is a decorative, seamless floor-finishing system designed to provide a durable and visually attractive surface for residential, commercial and selected industrial interiors. It can be used as an alternative to conventional tiles and other decorative floor finishes where a continuous, joint-minimized appearance is preferred.

Product Overview

Titanium flooring systems are available in a range of colours and decorative finishes. Depending on the selected system, the surface can be finished in gloss, matt, semi-gloss or wood-effect designs. Custom colours and designs can also be specified for projects.

Typical Floor Construction

The existing cement floor is an important part of the finished flooring system. The substrate should be structurally sound, sufficiently level, clean and free from loose material, dust, oil and other contaminants before application.

For projects following the Sri Lankan 2026 Building Schedule of Rates titanium floor finish specification, the described construction includes a 12 mm thick 1:3 cement-sand rough-finish bed followed by a 3 mm titanium layer. The specification also describes glass expansion detailing and a staged sanding and sealing process.

Surface Preparation

Inspect the existing cement floor and identify cracks, uneven areas and weak sections.
Level the floor where required.
Remove dust, dirt, oil, loose particles and other contaminants.
Ensure the substrate is adequately cured and suitable for the flooring system.
Repair cracks and surface defects before applying the flooring layers.
Ensure the floor is dry and protected from rain and moisture during installation.

Typical Application Process

The exact application procedure should follow the manufacturer's approved method statement. A typical titanium flooring installation consists of several carefully controlled layers.

Substrate preparation: Level and clean the cement floor.
Base preparation: Prepare the cement-sand floor to the required specification.
Titanium application: Apply the specified titanium flooring material in the required layers.
Intermediate drying: Allow the required drying time between layers.
Surface sanding: Sand the surface progressively to remove irregularities and achieve the required smoothness.
Sealing: Apply the specified sealer system to the clean, dry surface.
Final finishing: Polish or buff the surface according to the selected finish.
Inspection: Check the completed floor for colour consistency, surface defects, cracks and finishing quality.

Sanding and Polishing

For one titanium floor finish specification included in the Sri Lankan 2026 Building Schedule of Rates, the surface is progressively worked using 100-grit, 400-grit and 1000-grit sanding stages. The specified system then uses two coats of sealer followed by final polishing with buffing pads to achieve the required shine.

The actual sanding sequence should not be assumed for every titanium flooring product. The abrasives, number of passes, sealer and polishing procedure should be selected according to the manufacturer's technical specification and the desired final finish.

Expansion and Crack Control

Movement joints and expansion detailing are important considerations for large floor areas. The underlying substrate, building movement, temperature changes and existing joints should be assessed before installation.

Where required by the project specification, expansion joints should be incorporated rather than attempting to cover or bridge structural movement joints with the flooring finish.

Maintenance

Routine maintenance normally consists of removing dust and loose dirt and cleaning the surface using a suitable neutral or manufacturer-approved cleaning solution. Abrasive cleaners, aggressive chemicals and unsuitable cleaning equipment should be avoided unless specifically approved for the installed coating and sealer system.

High-traffic commercial floors should be inspected periodically for wear, scratches, staining and loss of surface protection. Maintenance and recoating requirements depend on the actual flooring system, traffic level and environmental conditions.

Warranty and Service

The Stockpile listing states a 5-year warranty period for its Titanium Flooring product. Warranty conditions should be confirmed with the supplier because coverage can depend on substrate preparation, installation, usage, maintenance and other project conditions.

Pricing in Sri Lanka

Titanium flooring is generally quoted according to the floor area, selected colour, finish, substrate condition and required preparation work. Additional charges may apply for floor levelling and other preparation work.
